Cary had been working harder than usual with Alicia running for office. Sometimes he just forgot to stop until he got a reminder. That was what he was doing tonight, trying to finish up a case before heading home. He glanced up then when he saw Nat and smiled. Now she was good at distracting him. "hey."

"Hey. I just saw you were still here, thought I'd see if you needed anything before I go home." Nat sat on the edge of his desk and smiled over at him. Their relationship had cooled of recent, not because of them but just because of work getting in the way. They hadn't been seeing each other that long beforehand so it wasn't a big deal to either of them, they understood. Still, she missed him in that way sometimes, which was why she quietly reached for his hand.

He smiled when she reached for his hand, his eyes looking up into hers. She wasn't the only one who missed what they had, he feared he let work allow that ship to sail. However his lips brushed over her fingers gently. "How about we get out of here? Dinner at my place."

Her genuine smile would show him he had nothing to worry about. "I'd really like that," she said, nodding a little. Sliding a little more across the desk to lean her head down and claim his lips for a soft, sweet kiss. Now that no one else was around who cared that he was technically her boss.

He closed his eyes and savored the feel of her lips on his, kissing her back just as softly. It wasn't a rushed kiss but one born of a deeper intimacy he felt with her.

Nat smiled at that. She knew underneath the flirting and the flings there was something really sweet about him that she appreciated as well. So she resolved to just enjoy their evening together. Waiting for him to finish up and telling herself not to just jump right back into bed with him this time.

He finished up and stood, looking over at her. " You know, you look really beautiful."

"Thank you. I lightened my hair a little." She smiled as she walked with him through the halls to the elevator. "You look good, Cary. Really good."

They didn't talk about the whole prison thing. Too much angst for both of them. She just liked to pretend it had never happened. As much as she missed the sex, that scare had reminded her to tell him that she appreciated him for things other than what he could do to her in bed.

"Thank you. Shall we?" He motioned for her to head out ahead of him. He followed her down to his car. "Do you want me to give you a ride?"

"Metaphorically or literally?" The smartass remark slipped past her lips before she could stop it. Chuckling she said, "Well I don't mind riding with you if you can drive me home later." If she left her car in the garage she'd have to have someone get her to work tomorrow.

He laughed gently at that and smirked. "Both." He kissed her cheek tenderly. "I'll make sure you get home safe."

"I appreciate it." She slipped into his car with him and buckled up. "Are you doing okay?" she asked, her hand once again finding his when they were on the road.

"I'm doing fine." He looked over at her and gave her a smile. "I mean that."

"I just wanted to be sure." Nat relaxed in the seat and waited for them to arrive. "I know we weren't together long but I do love you, Cary."

"I love you too, Nat. I was kind of hoping maybe we could, you know, work on getting back together." He smiled a little, not even sure it would be something she wanted. Yet he had to put it out there, just in case she did and was wondering the same.

"I'd like that, Cary." She nodded a little, relaxing as he drove. "I mean, I've always...you've just had so much going on I didn't want to make it more complicated by asking you."

"You have never made things complicated." He smiled gently giving her hand a squeeze as he drove.

That meant a lot for her to hear at the moment. She smiled over at him as they arrived at his building and made the walk to his apartment. She hadn't been here in a while and she missed the place.

"Still looks exactly the same," she commented jokingly as she hung up her coat.

"Just looking better now with you in it." He winked over at her and smiled.

"You are really, really charming and that's one of the things I've always loved about you." Nat smiled, he always made her feel special and not like he was just bullshitting her to get into her pants. She extended her hand, wanting him close to her, wanting to kiss him like she'd been dying to.

He smiled gently and walked over taking her hand, slipping close to her.

Nat took that moment to just hug him close, burying her face in his neck and just letting him know how glad she was that he was there with her. She had been really scared for him, more than she'd let on. Slowly she pulled back and gave him the passionate kiss she'd wanted to.
